John BALDWIN. Born  ?  in Oxford shire, England. John died in 1683.

Source:  History of Chester Co, PA, by J. Futhey.  Gen John Baldwin was a supporter of Cromwell.  He died on shipboard while he and his five sons crossed the Atlantic to America.  Three of the sons are Francis, John, and Thomas and Supposedly, two other sons, names unknown, went to Virginia.  John was married to UNKNOWN.

John Baldwin and unknown had the following children:

Second Generation

Francis BALDWIN. Born in 1657 in Oxfordshire, England. Francis died in New Castle, Delaware in 1702, he was 45.

Francis Baldwin was a settler in the neighborhood of West Chester County, Pennsylvania as early as 1686.  He was the brother of John and Thomas, as appears by the will of John, of Chester, who in 1731 left legacies to Thomas and John, sons of his brother Francis.  Francis was a miller, and died in New Castle county in 1702, although he was a juror at Chester Court not long before (July 19, 1700).  In 1691, his father-in-law, Thomas Coebourne, conveyed to him one hundred acres of land in Chester Creek and in Chester.  The will of his brother John leaves five shillings each to "all my brother Francis Baldwin's children."  I know the names only of those named in the same will as legatees of 10 pounds each.

Francis' name appears in Chester County as witness to deeds in 1691, 1697, 1699 and 1700.  He received from Thomas Coebourne in 1691 a deed of one hundred acres in Chester.  The consideration was an annuity.  In 1692, John Maddock conveyed fifty acres in Nether Providence, "Nether Cutt," which he had purchased of Francis Baldwin.  In 1695, he received a record deed from Thomas Coebourne of one hundred acres in Chester, which next year he conveyed to Joseph Coebourne for 50 pounds.  Letters of administration were granted, Aug 17, 1702, to his widow Cicely, by the Register General, at Philadelphia.

Third Generation

John BALDWIN, JR. Born on 10 Apr 1696 in Westchester, PA. John died in New Castle, Delaware in 1745, he was 48.

John Was supposedly married 3 times; Elizabeth Lewis, Sarah Cloud and Hannah Cloud Prew, sister to Sarah.  One source states that John had three children with Elizabeth, three children by Hannah and one child by Sarah Cloud.

From the Cloud Family by Rachel Pond, it states that Sarah and Hannah Cloud were indeed sisters, daughters of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Bailey Cloud.  Sarah was first married to John Baldwin who after Sarah's death, married her sister, Hannah Cloud Prew, widow of Caleb Prew.  The book makes no reference to the fact that John Baldwin was married previously to Elizabeth Lewis.

On 11 Apr 1719 when John Baldwin was 23, he married Sarah CLOUD, daughter of Jeremiah CLOUD & Elizabeth Ann BAILY, in Aston, Pennsylvania. Born abt 1695 in Chester, Pennsylvania. Sarah died in New Castle, Delaware  abt 1729, she was 34.
