He married ABIGAIL BAILEY 1660 in Newport, Rhode Island, daughter of WILLIAM BAILEY and GRACE NICHOLSON (Parsons). She was born 1640 in Newport, Rhode Island, and died March 17, 1686/87 in Perquimans Co., North Carolina.

[Ref: Perquimans County Deeds] Jane Charles had a grant for land in Perquimans 200 acres on Southwest side of Western Branch of Yampim Creek at a branch that divides said land from Robert Harmon, April 1, 1694.

Charles, Samuel, will Perquimans, probated March 1728, names son Samuel, to whom he left a plan, on which to live. Son John, land on Gum Swamp, son Josuay the same, daughters Lidey, Sarah and Hannaugh Charles and Granddaughter Elizabeth Overman all named in Will.

She was daughter of Joshua Toms m. Ezekiel Maudlin first and second Samuel Charles.

In this deed Samuel and Daniel are mentioned as brothers of William. The abstract reads: [Albemarle Co., NC., Deeds, No. 22] Francis Toms, Perquimans River, Albemarle Co., Province of Carolina to Daniel Charles and Samuel Charles the two brothers of above said William Charles, in consideration of a Plantation with all houses, etc., lying on the East Side of Perquimans River to me delivered by William Charles ... a plantation on the West Side of Perquimans River, 300 acres English Measure now in Possession of said Daniel Charles, being so much taken out of my Dividend of 587 acres as by my patent ... to be equally divided betwixt said two brothers joining and butting Eastward upon Perquimans River and Southward upon lands of Robert Wilson and Northward upon the remaining part of said Dividend and Westward on land not yet laid out ... all houses, etc. ... XXVI March 1687. Delivered ... Turf and Twigg Livery and Sesin to above said Daniel Charles Wit: John Stepney, Anothy (AH) Heathcott. Edward Mayo, Secr. Ex and entered 11 April 1687.

Notes for SAMUEL NICHOLSON:

[Ref: North Carolina Wills] North Carolina, the 22 of Ye: 1: Monty, 1727/8. Know ye, that I, Sam. Nicholson, am week in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to the Lord for it: Do make this my Last and Testament, Revoking all other Wills heretofore maid by me, first of all, I commit my Soul unto the Lord and by body to the Earth from whence was, to be decently buried after the discretion of my Executors hereafter named.

Secondly, my will is that my dear and well beloved wife, Elizabeth Nicholson, Shall have the whole Use and Benefit of all my Lands and houses and plantation during her life; and after her death, my will and pleasure is that my daughter, Elisabeth Anderson, shall have and enjoy all my Lands, plantations houses and profits, She and her Lawful heirs for ever. Also I give to my Said daughter, Elizabeth Anderson, a Negro woman called Bes.

I give to my daughter, Sarah Nicholson, one Neigro boy called Sesor, during her naturall Life, and at har dises, to fall to them of har kindred which she may think fitest to Life with. I allso give to my Said Daftor, Sarah Nicholson, a father bed and furniture.

I allso give to my Gran Children, forty shillings a pease, to be pid to my Friend, Sarah Gloster, as much good fine Silk Crape as will make har a Suit of Close, a pare of good Stays, three yards of muslin, a pare of worsted hoes, two Yards of Holen, as much fine Garlick, as will make har a Shift.

And as for the Rest of my Estate of what Remains after Lagists and Just debts are duly paid, I give to my Loveing Wife, Elizabeth Nicholson, to be at har disposing. I also make and ordain my Loveing Wife, Elizabeth Nicholson, and my Son-in-Law, John Anderson, Executrex and Executor of this my Will.

1716,6,6. Marriage of Abraham Sanders & Judah Pritloe. This couple were ltm 1716,6,1. At the time mtg Elizabeth Pritloe & Leah Pritloe were ltm William Elliott & Joseph Smith, respectively. Timothy Clare & Samuel Nicholson were appointed to stay at John Pritloes the night after the wedding to se that there be no disorders. The m record for Abrah Sanders & Judah Pritloe gives the m date as 1716,6,6. The other two couples are recorded as having been m 1716,6,16. In each of the three cert the statement is made that m was on the fifth day of the week. It seems reasonably certain that all three sisters were m on that day & that the recorder inadvertently wrote 6th instead of 16th in the Sanders-Pritloe record.

16__,10,6. Marriage of Samuel Nicholson & Elizabeth Charles. Record of this m follows that of John Belman, 1687,8,19 and is followed by that of Gabriel Newby, 1689,4,1. Samuel Nicholson & Elizabeth Charles declared their m intentions the first time at a monthly mtg held the 7th day of 9th mo; the second time at a QM held the lst day of 10th mo, yr not stated. MM were held on the fourth day of the week -Qm on the seventh day of the week. The 7th day of 9th mo & the 1st day of 10th mo fell respectively on the 4th & 7th days of the week in the year 1688.

In 1717 and 1718 Samuel Nicholson paid tax. He claimed in 1717 that he had 2 tithables and in 1718 he had 3 tithables. He paid tax on 350 acres both years. He lived between Francis Layden and Harris Willobe. His nearest neighbors were Francis Layden, Robert Wilson, Benjamin Sanders and John Anderson. And to the other direction Harris Willobe, Jos: Sutton, Senr., Debro: Macklenden, Abra: Jenit, William Wood, and Samuel Charles.

The Petition of Zachariah Nixson Senr. praying this Court to Appoint a guardian to Thomas Peirce Orphan of John Pierce Deceased to take care of the said Orphan and his Estate and to give sufficient security for the same. The Court having fully understood the said Petition and duly Considered the same ordered that the said Zachariah Nixson being the fitest person to be Guardian to the said Thomas Peirce Orphan as aforesaid to take his Estate into his hands Wheresoever in this Precinct to be found first giving Security for the same in the Sum of Five Hundred Pounds.
