| Mann's Private Cemetery is
located in Rossville, IL, Vermilion County, across the street from
Mann's Chapel. Several of the Mann's were taken from the old one
and placed across the street in the new Mann's Chapel cemetery.
Everyone else in the cemetery was left behind.
My paternal great, great, great
grandparents are buried here (Joseph and Anne). My lineage goes as follows (I am an
8th generation Smith)
Thomas Smith, b. circa 1700 had a son, Thomas
Smith, b. 1741, England, m. Catherine Green, they had approximately 9 children,
the last being Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith, b. 1783, first married
Catherine Matilda Crump and by her had four children. Joseph
married second to Nancy "Anne" Brooks and to them 14 children were born.
One of their children was Thomas Smith, b. 1820 who married Martha
Sadler. To this couple 8 children were born, and three survived.
One of these surviving children was Charles Smith who married
Susan Pendergrast and to them were born 9 children, the eldest being
Thomas Smith, my paternal grandfather. Thomas married Lottie
Josephine Houser and to them my father, Wendall Houser Smith, was born near
Rossville, IL (Vermilion County).
