Moore Line - English?  ~ I have another MOORE line on my father's side (this is my mother's side) that was ALSO in Madison County, Kentucky, and I have a sneaking suspicion my parents, unknown to the them, were distant cousins :)

Our John Moore (whose signature is above) was from the Isle of Wight area and associated with the churches and members in the following article from the History of Isle of Wight.

Religious History and Churches.

In 1772, the Rev. John Meglamore, from Raccoon Swamp, now Antioch church, Sussex county, preached and baptized a number of people; these people, on July 2nd, 1774, met near the site of the present church and organized themselves into a Baptist church, with David Barrow as pastor, under his name. For seventeen years this church was called "The Church in Isle of Wight," or "David Barrow's Church." In 1791 it assumed its present name. This old church sent out colonies at a later period to Smithfield, Moore's Swamp, Tucker Swamp and Bethesda.

The first meeting house of this church was built in 1832 and repaired and remodeled in 1895. It is now a brick structure with a seating capacity of several hundred. It has a large congregation and is in a flourishing condition. The yearly protracted meetings or revivals at this old church are of special note. While the same custom prevails in other churches in this vicinity, yet, on account of the length of time they have been held at Mill Swamp, the hospitality of its members and the magnificent spreads put upon the tables for the sustenance of the attendants upon these meetings, have made them, probably, more talked of at this church than at any other one. I have John's Revolutionary War Pension papers.

First Generation

John Beach MOORE II. Born in Jul 1750 in Culpepper County, Virginia. John B. died in Scott Co., Missouri on 11 Sep 1834, he was 84.  According to a cousin, Patty, John was married to another woman first, and it could have been a Sally or Sarah Lacky, but this is not proven.  On 2 Nov 1789 when John B. Moore was 39, he second married Mildred Lucas Bell, daughter of James Bell & Mildred Robinson, in Sussex Co., VA. Born in 1768 in Virginia. Mildred Lee died in 1853, she was 85.  See the BELL line here.

One researcher speculates that John Moore's father might be a "Morris Moore" and I am assuming that he ponders that as one son is named Morris, but perhaps he knows other reasons, I have not found anything on John's ancestry yet, nor does Boddie mention any except another Moore family, that at first glance doesn't seem to be related, but I have to research some more to determine if there is a connection.

Statement by John B. Moore II:

This is part of statement dictated to James B. Moore by John Moore II about ninety (90) days prior to his death on 11 September 1834.

I, John Moore now living in Scott County, Missouri was born in the County of Culpepper, State of Virginia, in July 1750.  At the age of twelve years (1762) was moved with my mother and Stepfather, John Lucas into Northampton County, North Carolina where my Stepfather died.  I was bound as apprentice to Fredrick Jones and learned the Carpenters trade.  In the Fall of the year of 1774 (he would be 24 yrs old) I moved from said Northampton County just across the Roanoke River into Halifax County, N. C.  In the early part of the British hostilities, that is after the battle of Lexington and before the Declaration of Independence I enlisted as a Minuteman under Captain John Brinkley of said Halifax County, in which County I resided then and through the war and until I removed to Madison County, Kentucky in the Fall of the year 1790.

I settled near Boonesborough and lived there until the Spring of the year of 1811.  I then moved to Tanners Old Mill place about three miles S. W. of Princeton, KY.  From this place I never made any moves until I came to stay with my son John Moore in Scott County, State of Missouri in the month of June 1830.  On the right is a map I've made showing the locations of John Moore's residences.  Here is a land grant for John in Madison County, KY.

On a Caldwell County, KY site, there is a listing for John B. Moore having served in the Revolution, dying in Scott Co., MO in 1834 and it says the widow is in Caldwell, KY.

Catherine, According to the family history John is buried on the family farm just outside Sikeston. I haven't looked at a map to get the exact township and number, but the Moore's old Plantation home sat approximately 3 miles north of town, I don't have a cemetery location, the book just says "buried on this place". I even played in the old log home which was donated to Southeast Missouri State University several years ago. The Moore's still live on the land. The son John and family are buried on a farm near Oran, MO which is about 10 miles north of Sikeston. Hope this helps. Caryl.

Statement of James B. Moore

State of Kentucky
Caldwell County

On this 11th day of September 1852 before me, E. T. Watkins, an acting Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared James B. Moore, aged sixty one (61) years, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to law on his oath makes the following declaration, to wit:

That he is the son of John Moore, deceased, late of the said County and State, who died in Missouri on the 11th day of September, one thousand eight hundred and thirty four (1834) leaving Mildred Lucas Moore his widow, who survived him and remained his widow, and died in the aforesaid County and State on the 20th day of July, one thousand eight hundred and forty-four, leaving the following children to wit:

James B. Moore, aged sixty one (61) years on the second day of April eighteen hundred and fifty two

Mrs. Mary White, now fifty-eight (58) years of age;

John Moore, now fifty-six (56) years of age;

Mrs. Hannah Gibson, now about fifty-five (55) years;

Mrs. Andromecha Williams, now about forty-seven (47);

Morris Moore, now about fifty-three (53); and

Mrs. Rebecca Terry, now about forty-five (45) years.

That at the time of death of the said John Moore there were no other than the above named children living.

The above extracted from the statement of James B. Moore.

John Beach Moore
and Mildred Lee Robinson Bell had the following children: (birth years are extracted from the document above).

i

James B. Moore born 1791 ~ (made statement above) ~ there is a John Moore, 1792-1857, buried in the Flat Creek Cemetery and I wonder if it's this James Moore, it seems likely to me.  Also from Caldwell Co., KY Death Records, I have this information:

James B. Moore, 60, ML (male) married, surveyor & wagon maker, born S. C., lived Caldwell Co., KY, parents John & Mildred Moore, died of a fever in Caldwell Co., KY.  My only question is why he would be buried all the way over in Flat Creek Cemetery far away from Caldwell County.  So it might not be our James Moore in Flat Creek.  The death record above had no date, but it was with a bunch of them cited for the year 1854.

Subject: Re: John Beach Moore

I was looking at the Moore genealogy and noticed that I have Judy Malone as born 1n 1747 which would have made her too young as John Beach Moore was born ii in 1750. However, the information was submitted by (I can't find my original paper work on it right now) a grand daughter. It gave John Moore who married Mildred Lee (Lucas) Bell as being born in 1769 with parents as John Moore (born Ireland) and Judy Malone (born Virginia). This was done in 1871 when they were estranged from most of the Moore's because of being Mormon. John (1750) did keep in touch because at least one of Andromecha's daughters visited the family in Missouri.

The Family History which was written by Bess Moore Cambell, daughter of John Beach Moore (1835) in it she says that the information came from Andromecha Moore-Williams:

Great-great grandfather, John Beach Moore, was born in Ireland in some early year of 1700, came to North Carolina; nothing further recorded except that he left a son, John Beach II.  Similarly, a few facts of John Beach II, begin only after the death of his first wife and two children; he then moved to Virginia where he married Mildred Bell Robinson, relative of Admiral, Lord Nelson.

Some of the information is not accurate, such as your Hannah's sister Sarah did not die in the Great New Madrid Earthquake in 1811. With communication not being what it is today, she probably went down the Mississippi River and because the never heard of her again, they assumed she died.

Our common ancestor is John (1750) & Mildred Bell
John B. Moore (1796) married Sarah Myers
John B. Moore (1835) married Mildred Hamilton
Seibert H. Moore (1884) married Clara Dirnberger (Bess's brother)
Wilson C. Moore 1913 married Ruth C. Littrell

Lucy Moore - I do not know anything about Lucy, Lemuel or the infant.  They all must have died fairly young, as they are not listed in their elder brother's statement above as alive.  My source for these children is a group sheet completed by a cousin, Wilson Moore, who was born in 1912, and worked on his family history in the 80's.  I tried to contact him via mail at the address on the group sheet, but my letter was returned, if alive he would be 92 yrs old.

Second Generation

Madison CountyHannah MOORE. Born in 1792 in Madison Co., KY. Hannah died in Christian Co., Kentucky aft 1863, she was 71.  On 24 Aug 1815 when Hannah was 23, she married Meredith GIBSON, son of John GIBSON & Judith HOGG, in Caldwell County, KY. Born in 1790 in Caswell Co., North Carolina. Meredith died in Christian Co., Kentucky in 1860, he was 70.  I do not know where he is buried, perhaps in the Gibson Cemetery? See the Hogg (Hogue) and Gibson lines too.  On the right is the marriage bond between Hannah Moore and Meredith Gibson that I viewed in Caldwell Co., KY in June 2005.

Meredith Gibson and Hannah Moore had the following children:

i

Mary Bertha Gibson - (our line) was born 1818, and married Constant Oglesby Ratliff on 21 May 1839 and she died in 1896 at the age of 78.  I have her obituary.   See the Ratliff line.

ii

America S. Gibson - born 1822, married 3 March 1853 to John W. Denton

iii

Aurelius R. Gibson - married Nancy Elizabeth Tolbert Woodruff on 4 Jun 1865 in Christian County, KY.  Elizabeth descends from my Woodruff line.

iv

John Moorehead Gibson - born 1827, Christian County, KY, married Sarah Jane Hammond on 22 Aug 1888 in Christian County, KY.

v

Caroline Gibson - born ?, married 11 Aug 1850 to David G. Hopson in Christian county, KY.

vi

Pittman Gibson

vii

Narcipia Gibson - her name is strange and I've seen it spelled a couple of different ways.

viii

William Lee Gibson - born 1834, Christian County, KY, married 27 July 1858 to Melvira Prudence or Elizabeth Savira Long?

Next to Mary (Gibson) Ratliff is her brother, William L. Gibson and wife Melvina. They have a son Charlie, age 17, Mary's nephew.  William L. Gibson married Melvira * P. Long July 3, 1858 in Christian Co.  - I know her name appears as Melvina in 1880 census, but it is supposed to be Melvira.

William L. Gibson served in Co. A 3rd Ky. Cavalry in the Civil War, the same one that John A. B. Ratliff served in, (William was John's nephew). He filed an application for Pension in April 1872, and his widow Melvira filed an application in March 1899, so William must have died just shortly before that date.

From here see the Gibson line.
