Have been checking your Sadler's with my list and thought you might like to check the following:

All birth dates are from FHL reference 1279405, 1605-1837 and all the baptism dates are from the Church Baptism Records for Little Hinton as prepared by the Wiltshire Family History Society

John Sadler - I have him born 3 October 1808 and baptized 5 March 1809

Marie Sadler - The spelling in the Baptism Records is Maria and the baptism date is 30 March 1806. I have the birth date as 18/10/1804 but this is un-sourced (I'm also trying to get better at this).

Martha Sadler - Birth date is 10 June 1824 and not 1827, Baptism on 1 August 1824

Hope this helps

Second Generation

John SADLER, SR. Born in 1776 in England.  John married Elizabeth DAVENPORT.  (This is a picture of the Church at Little Hinton, in Wiltshire England. My family and I traveled to England in 2000, and I took the opportunity to do some original research at the Wilts Records Center. Timothy Sadler b 1732, his wife Dinah, and daughter Jane are buried on the other side of the church.)  Regards, David W Sadler.  The picture on right is Timothy's tombstone, both pictures were generously provided by my cousin David W. Sadler, thanks David !

Also from my cousin David:  John and family immigrated to the US c. 1836 - 7 or 8. I can't find any ships records or manifests to prove this, but John did pay tax in Little Hinton in 1835?, and appears in the 1840 Census in Elmira NY.

I do not have any dates of death, or locations for John and wife. They just disappeared. Several members of the family moved from the Elmira area within a few years after the 1840's. I suppose John could have gone with one of them, died and been buried at that location where ever that may be.

I have a suspicion that they are in an old abandoned grave yard that appears on some very old maps of Elmira. There are no records of the graves being moved, and this is presently under part of E. Water St, by the DeWittsburg Housing Project. Obviously I can't prove any of that the records are long gone.

John Sadler and Elizabeth Davenport had the following children:

THE LEADING CITIZENS OF MADISON COUNTY

GEORGE S. SADLER, President of the village of Canastota, a successful business man, and for years a trusted railroad employee, was born at Ingham's Mills, Herkimer County, August 31, 1845. His father, Samuel Sadler, was born in Wiltshire, England, about 1816, and was a son of Richard Sadler, (this is wrong and should read he was a son of Samuel, who was a son of John Sadler) a native of the same county, who came to the United States at an early day, and with his family of ten children, six sons and four daughters, located for a time in Newburg, N.Y. The names of these ten children were as follows: Robert, John, George, William, Samuel, Timothy, Maria, Martha, Ann, and Sarah.

The widow of Timothy Sadler is living in Elmira with her son John, one of that city's successful business men. Ann was the wife of a Mr. Charles Rodbouver, of Breesport, Chemung County. Sarah was the wife of a Mr. Moore, of Elmira. All lived to rear families, and nearly all have passed away. Richard Sadler died at Elmira in old age, his wife outliving him some years.

Samuel Sadler was twice married, his second wife, Lovina Bellenger, being the mother of four children, namely: George S., the subject of this sketch; Byron, a hotel-keeper and box manufacturer, of Ingham's Mills; Francis, who died in infancy; and James D., of Ingham's Mills, manager of a country gristmill. Samuel Sadler died May 31, 1892, aged seventy-six years. His widow still lives at Ingham's Mills, a well-preserved and active woman for her years.

George S. Sadler was educated in the common schools of his native village, at Little Falls Academy, and had one term at a business college. He was brought up to the miller's trade in his father's mill. For some seven years he was book-keeper for his cousin, Joseph Rodbouver, and for other milling and manufacturing concerns; and in 1872 he began railroading on the Elmira, Cortland & Northern Railroad, as book-keeper for a firm of railroad contractors. From this place he has been promoted through every position in the railroad service up to that of superintendent, first becoming station agent, then train dispatcher and accountant, then traveling freight and passenger agent, and finally superintendent of transportation.  In August, 1886, he took the general coal agency for the Elmira, Cortland & Northern Railroad and the Elmira Coal Company, with headquarters at Canastota, which position he still holds.

Mr. Sadler was married October 31, 1863, to Miss Melissa C. Claus, of Oppenheim, Fulton County, N.Y. They lived in Preble, Cortland County, three years, and a few years at Breesport and Elmira City; and for the past five years they have lived in Canastota.

As an enthusiastic member of -the leading fraternities, Mr. Sadler is well known. He has been a Mason twenty-one years, has taken the thirty-second degree, and is thoroughly versed in Masonic lore: He. is a member of Little Falls Lodge, No.181, and Chapter No. 161, and Elmira Commandery, No. 19, K. T., Corning Consistory, Scottish Rite and Zyara Temple, of the Mystic Shrine of Utica.

In Canastota Mr. Sadler has been prominently identified with the Odd Fellows. He aided materially in the organization of Canastota Lodge, No. 254, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he was the first Noble Grand. He has been indefatigable in laboring for the upbuilding of this order; and as a result Canastota Lodge has an unusually large membership, composed of the best citizens of the place, and its lodge room, its furnishings, and its paraphernalia are among the finest and most complete in the State. Mr. Sadler is also a member of Adieno Encampment and of Oneida Canton, P. M.; and he has several times been honored with the appointment of District Deputy Grand Master. He is also a member of the Royal Arcanum, the Equitable Aid Union, and the American Legion of Honor.

Mr. Sadler is very methodical in all his affairs; and during the two years he has been Water Commissioner--the only public office he had held up to his election as President of the village--he systematized the book-keeping of the Water-works Department, and, together with the other commissioners, largely increased the revenue from water rents. He has always believed in unalloyed Democracy.

The accompanying portrait of this most eminent brother will be recognized and appreciated by many friends, both within and without the mystic orders.

From my cousin David Sadler about the bio above on George S. Sadler:

Catherine,

George S, is indeed one of ours. The bio comes from an old book The Leading Citizens of Madison County. It contains errors.  Here is the scoop ~

George S, had three brothers, John Byron, Francis (died in infancy), and James D. Sadler.

George's father was Samuel Sadler b Jan 23, 1815. Sam's father was John Timothy b 1/2/1776.

Sam was a brother to our Timothy Henry, b 12/8/1816. Therefore George S. (above) was a nephew to our Timothy.

I have dealt with this issue of Richard before, and this is clearly an error. Sam's father was John Timothy, not Richard.   Also, George S. above, is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.

I don't know if you are aware, but one of Timothy Henry's sons John T. was a very successful plumber. He got his start with a huge loan from George S.'s widow. The widow actually lived with John T. and his family for a while after Georges death.

From the History of Mills

Various mills have been established in Ingham's Mills, and have gradually faded away with time. Flax seeds were transported to Ingham's Mills and turned into linseed oil at the linseed oil mill, opened in 1842 by Howard and Ezra Sampson. Wool from various farmers was attained for carding at the carding mill. Samuel Sadler brought the Ingham family mills and turned the carding mill into a cider mill in 1842. The saw mill in Ingham's Mills eventually changed into James D. Sadler's cheese box factory, which was sold to N.E. Snell. The grist mill that Sadler initiated was well-known as the "Red Mill" by the community. Tea and corn meal were ground there, and boxing matches were also held there on occasion.

The John Sadler below went to this school.

I found this picture below on Nancy Trice's Tri-County Web site.  This is a photo of the Troy County, PA High School.  John Sadler is in the back row first one on the left.  I am almost certain he is a descendant of our line that was in the area, although I did find another Sadler family in the area that I couldn't connect with ours, so he could be from that line as well.   This John Sadler was Valedictorian of his class.  (permission to use photo was obtained).  Click either to enlarge.
